The meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of State (CHOGM) will be held in London city from 16 April onwards. PM Modi will arrive in London on Tuesday for this meeting. Apart from the many important issues in this meeting, the most discussed can be the point that who will now play the role of Commonwealth chief, because British Queen Elizabeth is desperately trying to retire from this position. India has increased its activism under the leadership of PM Modi to achieve the leadership role in this organization.

Queen may leave the position for this reason

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has been 92 years old, so it is not possible for her to travel more and stay active. In Britain, most of the Queen’s work is being assigned to her successor Prince Charles, but the post of chief of Commonwealth is not genetic. So it is not clear now who is the head of the Commonwealth.

India is ready to lead

India is preparing to play a big role in the Commonwealth. It can be the first step towards India’s aspiration to lead the world stage. Significantly, Commonwealth is an important organization in which there is no China, so it is easy for India to play a leadership role.

India wants to be in the role of leader by increasing its activity in this organization. Many foreign newspapers have also searched the growing activism of India and started publishing news about this. According to the Times of India, in this meeting PM Modi can declare India’s financial contribution to doubling the Commonwealth.

Any Prime Minister of India is going to CHOGM for the first time since 2009. Earlier, in the meeting held in Malta, PM Modi himself was unable to go. According to Dinesh Patnaik, Deputy High Commissioner of India, in India, India’s role in various institutions is growing steadily and Commonwealth is also no different. India wants a leadership role in the international scene, Britain also wants India to play a more important role in Commonwealth.

Britain’s Queen probably will be the last organizer of a CHOGM conference. Meanwhile PM Modi will also meet the Queen other than the other heads of state. It is not clear now who will be the head of Commonwealth after the Queen. It will be discussed during the retreat of leaders in the Waterloo Chamber of Windsor Castle. During this time different heads of state will meet privately and there can be discussions on matters like improving Commonwealth, giving it a new look.
