On Gautam Gambhir’s Retirement Shah Rukh Khan Has A Suggestion For His Ccaptain

Gautam Gambhir decided to bid adieu to all forms of the game on Tuesday evening as he announced his retirement in an emotional video. Conceding that he has been questioning himself over the last couple of years and stretching his career by punishing the body even more, the time for him to call it quits has come. Gambhir, who had some very fine seasons with Indian Premier League outfit Kolkata Knight Riders, got a special message from franchise co-owner Shah Rukh Khan as the retirement news broke out.

Having joined KKR in 2011, Gambhir famously led the team to two IPL titles – in 2012 and 2014 – while ending as the tournament’s highest run-scorer in a total of three seasons before joining his home side Delhi Daredevils in 2018. Spending the majority of his IPL career with the Knight Riders, Gambhir presently is 4th in the list of top-scoring batsmen in the tournament with 4217 runs in 152 matches.

Having to see such a big contributor to his team KKR and the Indian cricket depart after some glorious years, SRK congratulated the 37-year-old for a wonderful career while also suggesting that he needs to smile a bit more. “Thank u for the love & leadership my Captain. U r a special man and may Allah always keep & happy…& u should smile a bit more”, tweeted SRK.

In his video announcing retirement, Gambhir admitted that he is going to miss the atmosphere of the Indian cricket team dressing room the most while also thanking his former teammates who helped him grow as a cricketer. The thing that I will miss the most is the camaraderie of an Indian team’s dressing room. It was a wonderful place to be in. Yes, there are pressures of international sport but then when you have team-mates like I had these pressures look elementary. I learnt heaps from each one of them. I will miss all of that and more. Thank you guys, you all will be my one, big family,” he said. Gambhir will be playing his last game as a professional cricketer when he steps onto the pitch for Delhi in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Delhi will be up against Andhra Pradesh, with the match starting on December 6 at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
