Pakistan would be looking to pick up where they left off on Day 1. Yasir Shah was once again on the frontlines, spinning webs around the New Zealand batsmen and taking wickets at regular intervals. Bilal Asif picked while Hasan Ali and debutante Shaheen Afridi chipped in with one apiece. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson anchored much of the innings before falling to Hasan Ali on 89 and his dismissal gave Pakistan the clear upper hand.
